May 3rd the premiere of the musical "New Man" starring a mixed cast of Berklee and Boston Conservatory Students will be shown in the Red Room. The musical takes place during the Romanian dictator Ceaucescu's reign which changed the country forever. The Decree 770 banned contraception and abortion causing a baby boom that increased the number of births by almost 100%. A large number of these children ended up needing to live in orphanages due to the extreme poverty, one of these children being a Berklee student and the director of this musical. I am cast as Liana who gets pregnant and has to make the hard decision of whether or not to risk death by getting an illegal abortion. Based off of true situations and events the Romanian people had to endure "New Man" is a suspenseful heartthrob that will keep you at the edge of your seats.
